Balanced Chargers Climb Over Highlanders With 65-51 Triumph

Three Chargers scored in double figures and another finished a point away from a double-double in the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team’s 65-51 victory over MacMurray JV on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium. 

KEY MOMENTS

  • Sandburg (6-5) scored the game’s initial six points and closed the first half on a 10-0 run to take a 37-14 lead into the locker room. Sophomore guard Sophie Whitford (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) started the second-quarter run with a 3-pointer with 3:00 to go, and freshman Shelby Glover (Elmwood, Ill./Elmwood) beat the halftime buzzer with a jumper.
  • The Chargers, who never trailed, led by as much as 25 in the second half before a late 11-0 run by the Highlanders.

SANDBURG STANDOUT
Whitford grabbed a team-leading and career-high 11 rebounds for her first double-digit night on the glass as a Chargers. She finished with nine points, with all of them coming on a 3-for-5 effort from 3-point range.

OTHER TOP CHARGERS

  • Sophomore Hailey Lovetinsky (Overland Park, Kan./Spring Hill) had a team-best 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
  • Sophomore Cora Neal (Monmouth, Ill./Monmouth-Roseville) scored 11.
  • Sophomore forward Kennedy Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) scored 11 on 5-of-7 shooting, pulled down six rebounds and blocked a pair of shots.
